Every year, for Valentine’s day, my mother sends me a box of Godiva. I never really thought about it, I just thought it was a sweet thing my mother does.
Last year, she told me that when she was younger, and her parents traveled without her, her mother would always bring her back a box of Godiva. This was way before it was widely available.
My grandmother died on Valentine’s day about twelve years ago. Maybe more. Maybe less. I am bad at keeping track of time.
I thought about the story this year, after my box arrived. It’s interesting how traditions are formed. You don’t even know that they’re traditions, until you do.
